Living a Resilient Life is the theme of the Oct LIFT speaker event. It’s happening Friday, October 19, 12:15-1:15 p.m. at the Gibsons Public Library. (You can sign up at the library or call 604.886.2130 to register for this FREE event. )
The LIFT planning team is pleased to have as our host for this month’s event Leonie Croy, someone who really understands and practises resilience both personally and in many projects in the Sunshine Coast community.
The Three Speakers for Oct
West Australians Shani Graham and Tim Darby have lots of experience when it comes to creating sustainable housing, gardens and community.
Prepare to be inspired by their latest project and title of their talk “Ecoburbia; A Housing Cooperative and Urban Farm Run by Benevolent Dictatorship”.
Once described by a federal an Australian MP as “playing a significant role in making their home town of Fremantle a leader in environmental action and innovation”, Shani and Tim teach, promote and model resilience in a way that is fun, real and empowering.
In her inspiring 2013 TEDxPerth talk, the first words that Shani speaks are, “I come from Gibsons.” Now she is back home for a visit, and we are honoured to have her speak at our LIFT event.
Naomi Fleschhut, our third speaker, is Coordinator of the Roberts Creek Resilient Neighbourhoods program, part of a provincial collaborative effort to help create resilient neighbourhoods across British Columbia.
She will speak about the Roberts Creek pilot project she launched in 2017 and her plans to keep this initiative running into the future! Her presentation is called “Transforming the World One Neighbourhood at a Time.”
Please join us and bring a friend. Download a copy of the event flyer and share with anyone who might be interested. Big shout out to Andrea Routley at the library for her ongoing work to create the LIFT event flyers.
