At the tender age of 11, after watching many cricketing duals between New Zealand’s Sir Richard Hadlee and Australia’s Denis Lillee, Danny Morrison knew without a doubt that he would one day open the bowling for his country. Without the normal attributes (particularly height!) to be a successful fast bowler he faced many knock backs and criticism. But armed with truckloads of determination, an enormous amount of self belief and a commitment like no other Danny’s dream was realised when he broke the mould in December 1987 at the famous GABBA ground, achieving debut figures of 4 for 86.
It was a colourful ten year career with NZ Cricket undergoing many changes as the professional sporting era transformed dramatically for everyone involved. Danny went on to become the second highest wicket taker behind one of his greatest mentors Sir Richard Hadlee in early 1995 and proudly became the first New Zealander to take a one day hat trick against India in Napier. He also held the illustrious world record in Test ducks, something he enjoys taking banter for.
Now based in Australia, he is a Professional Sports Speaker and Fox Sports Commentator. Danny relates his experience in cricket as a metaphor for life embracing the importance of team, physical welfare, persistence, determination, having guts and gratitude and the ability to always keep a smile on the dial no matter what!
Generously sharing his personal story of his great success as a legendary cricketing hero to how he clawed his way courageously out of the black hole of depression after his sister tragically died while at the same time how he almost lost everything he had when a property development went terribly wrong. Danny shows how determination, self belief and commitment put his shattered life back on track and powered on towards a successful career in the business world. A popular and motivating speaker, Danny continues to live by his theme song ‘I get knocked down but I get up again’ and how important it is to keep that smile on the dial no matter what life challenges you may face!

TESTIMONIES
During my period of 8 years as Managing Director of Crown Relocations in New Zealand we were heavily involved in sports sponsorship and also utilised many sporting personalities to act as guest speakers at client functions and internal staff conferences. Management at our office were very pleased to utilise the services and be associated with Danny Morrison, including his fantastic speaking abilities, the publication of his book and sponsorship of his Testimonial. There is a strong similarity in what our company tries to achieve as our goals and what Danny has achieved in his sporting life. To give 100% plus in effort and commitment, coupled with always striving to be the best, is the Danny way. He speaks from the heart and shares some very moving and highly engaging stories about how he broke the mould and made it to the top. Danny has spoken at a number of our conferences and for NZ Soccer who we sponsor and have a close affiliation to. He is a genuine, humble and very influential speaker. Danny, and his lovely wife Kim have become very good friends at Crown, giving us a wonderful insight into what makes this dynamic duo tick! I am very happy to recommend Danny Morrison not only as a remarkable ambassador for his sport, but as a superb speaker who knows how to engage with his audience and inspire them to achieve what may seem impossible. Brian Valentine – Vice President Crown Relocations Western & Great Lakes Regions, USA
Danny Morrison should never have been a fast bowler. Fast bowlers are normally tall and slim, all arms and legs. Danny is short, squat and heavy around the thighs! Fast bowlers are meant to be mean and nasty, difficult to get along with, crazy in the eyes, completely focused and unreasonable. Danny is pleasant and personable, able to mix and relate to all types and all ages, boringly sane, balanced and logical! Danny Morrison became a fast bowler because he desperately wanted to be one. Like all kids Danny was a dreamer. The difference was that he not only dreamed of playing at the top level, but he was prepared to do anything to get there. Heart is the biggest thing Danny has got going for him. No one could have tried harder. Danny made to the top of his game in his country because of his grit and will to succeed. Whenever I have called upon Danny Morrison to speak or be a guest on national television or radio he shares what drove him powerfully and modestly. It hasn’t always been easy for Danny, but there is one thing to be said he never gives up. He is easy to interview and listen to. He is a ‘natural’ in media circles. I am proud to call him my friend.Murray Deaker – Media Personality for 1ZB Radio Sport and Sky Sport Television
Danny Morrison’s speech was outstanding and covered everything that we wanted it to. The feedback from the group expressed that his speaking, delivery and content was indeed excellent. We are very pleased to recommend Danny in any capacity with special ability as a keynote and as an MC. Andrew Evison – Manager Inland Revenue Department
